Constant 5 beeps & Line Across Screen

Dell Inspiron 5110 Laptop

Got a dashed line across screen from left side 3/4 of way across, 2 inches below top.  Had for a week.

A few days ago system started having problems coming out of hibernation and now beeps when it does so and afterwards.  5 beeps then a pause then beeps again, continuously...any ideas??

Hi hh60hldg,

I’d suggest that you follow the steps mentioned below and check if the beep pattern repeats.

  1. Switch off the computer.
  2. Disconnect the AC adapter from the system.
  3. Remove the battery from the computer.
  4. Press and hold down the power button for 15 seconds.
  5. Then connect back all the peripherals and check if the beep pattern repeats.

Also, We will have to perform the ‘LCD BIST’ (Built in Self-test) on the computer. Please follow the steps mentioned below to run the “LCD BIST’.

  1. Turn of the computer.
  2. Press and hold down the ‘D’ key on the keyboard and press the Power button.
  3. You will see different colors on the LCD screen. Please check if you see Line across on the screen.

If you see the Line across on the screen while the LCD bist is running you will have to replace the LCD.

In addition, I would advise you to connect an external display and check for the issue.
