Corrupt master file tables

Apparently the only fix for a corrupt $MFT is to back up all important files, delete and reformat the partition and reinstall the OS.  Happy hours!

I do not think reinstallation will fix the problem. I have the same corrupted Master File Table problem. No matter how many times I reinstalled the system, no matter what method I used, as long as I used the system recovery or the installation CD provided by Dell, the same problem persists. There is no way to fix it if you encounter the problem according to Microsoft Official website.

Dream carrier: Thanks for the message. I haven't had any news from the OS that the $MFT is still corrupt, but then no program has tried to access it since my recent install. You know there is apparently such a thing as a low level format. if you go to HD maker's website you may find the utility. If my table is still corrupt I am going to do this. of course get the name from device manager. Thanks for the heads up. I may be congratulating myself too soon. It is enough to make you think of apple, linux, unix, multix or other OS's. I'm too imp;atient for linux now. tried red hat and suse and like the more verstile gui action of msft as much as I deplore the way they do business. At least mr gates is incredibly active with world health. My hat is off to him and wife for that.
Good luck. If you do a low level format you might get back to me and let me know of its success/non success.
Daniel
