Creating recovery image using a usb stick
I have a Vostro V130 which has no internal DVD drive. While I did purchase the Dell external DVD drive for this laptop, I would like to use the Dell Backup and Recovery Manager to created a recovery image on the USB, so that I can safely travel without the DVD drive and recovery away from home.
However, when I plug a 4 GByte uSB stick into the laptop, the Dell Backup and Recovery Manager says I don't have enough free space, but it I cannot find anywhere (on the web, or in then manual) how much capacity in the USB stick I need.
So before I buy one and waste money on one that might be too small, how big should it be?

The Recovery Partition is 10 gigs on most machines so I would recommend 16 gig minimum.
USB flash drives are notoriously unreliable.
Get an SDHC compatible USB Reader and then Buy a Class 4 or Class 6
SDHC memory stick. Several reasons to do this. I got the Lexar 32 gigs at Office Depot on sale for $49 each.
They also had Gear Head SDHC readers for $9.
1 it means you have a guarantee on the reliability of the SDHC.
2 it means if you accidentally break of the usb part of the reader you havent lost your data.
3. it means you can use the flash ram for other things.
4. once you put your data on the SDHC you can flip the switch to Write Protect the Media.
