I defraged my computer and now my cursor is jumping to the previous sentence that I just typed. Can anyone help?

Hi Bea21,

Lets try few troubleshooting steps to isolate the issue.

1. Update the latest touchpad drivers available at the Dell support site. (Enter the service tag and select the operating system to narrow down the search for the correct touchpad drivers)

2. Open Control Panel and select Mouse/Dell Touchpad. Reset the touchpad settings to default.

3. Change the Sensitivity Settings for the Pointing Device from Control panel - Mouse - Device Settings - Dell Touchpad tab

4. Run custom diagnostics on Dell 32 Bit Diagnostics or on Dell PC Dr. If the touchpad fails the hardware diagnostics, it will have to be replaced.

To run Dell hardware diagnostics: http://dell.to/KRBOtZ

Please reply with the results.

Hi Bea21,

Check if the cursor issue happens in safe mode (restart the computer and hit F8 on Dell logo and select safe mode). Now use the cursor in safe mode.

Try using command prompt and check if the same happens.

Install the touchpad drivers from the below link:

  1. Visit the following website: http://www.dell.com/support/troubleshooting/us/en/19/TroubleShooting/ProductSelector
  2. Enter the Service tag of the computer in the box provided and click “Submit”.
  3. In the next page, click drop down arrow to select the Operating System which is installed in the computer.
  4. Under category INPUT, select the file accordingly, click “Download File” and save the file on desktop.Run and Install the file from desktop.
