Hi Waterford22,

May I know the exact system model and the Operating system installed on the computer?

Check the status of touch pad in safe mode (Restart the computer and tap F8 on Dell logo) .Select Safemode with networking and try using the touchpad.

Also try installing Touch freeze .This Utility disables touchpad automatically while you are typing text.

Install the touch freeze drivers from the below link:

http://bit.ly/12PbuR

From the above link, click on Downloads sections, save the file and run the file.

We might need to uninstall and reinstall the touchpad drivers for which we need Operating system installed on the cimputer and the exact system model.

Awaiting your response!

Rajesh,

I just restarted the Studio in safe mode and the touchpad worked.  The operating system is Windows 7 Professional.  Model is PP3L.  this is a Studio 1537.

Let me know the next step.

Thanks,

Rick

Hi Rick,

I regret for the delay in response.

May I know did you try installing the touch freeze?

Uninstall and reinstall touchpad drivers:

Follow below steps to Uninstall and reinstall the drivers:

  1. Click “Start”, type “Device Manager” and press enter.
  2. In the “Device Manager” window, open the "Mice and Other Pointing Devices" selection.
  3. Under “"Mice and Other Pointing Devices", right click the Synaptic touchpad, and click “Uninstall”.
  4. Check the box “Delete driver software for this device”, click ok and follow the on-screen instructions.
  5. Restart the computer.

Now install the drivers from the below link:

Rajesh,

I've installed the Touch Freeze and it seems to have a positive effect.  my wife needs a day with it to make sure.  that said, I'll uninstall/install the drivers this afternoon.

Thanks again for your help with this.

one other issue:  text, screen frames, tool bars etc, will get a ragged appearance, almost like each line of pixels is shifted and then the next is shifted back.  you can restore sections by either clicking, dragging or selecting.  Any idea what this is?

Rick

Hi Rick,

I recommend to install the touchpad driivers from the below link:

http://dell.to/14tcdh3

Check the status of the tool bar and Menu in Safemode with networking. Restart the computer and press F8 on Dell logo and select Safemode with networking).

Try using IE and check if the issue persists.

If you are using Internet explorer, try an IE (Internet explorer) Reset/browser reset.

This Reset varies between browsers to browser.

Follow the below mentioned steps to Reset IE (Internet explorer):

  • Click on Tools.
  • Select Internet options
  • Under “Advanced” tab and click Reset.

I have provided a link below for more information on IE reset:

Rajesh,

Thanks for your help with our cursor jumping issue.  installing the freeze utility seems to have solved the problem.  I have not reinstalled the drivers, but will keep the link just in case.

what thoughts do you have on the screen distortion issue?  looks like every other pixel is blanked out.  very strange.

Thanks again,

Rick
