D3100 dock with XPS15
Is it possible to operate the XPS15 with the D3100 dock with the laptop lid closed? I have a keyboard, display, and mouse connected to the D3100 and do not need to have the laptop open. I want to have the laptop in a stand so that it does not occupy a lot of desk space. Unfortunately if the laptop lid is closed it shutsdown. I cannot find a way to keep it operating with the docking station.

Hi dclark15773,
What is the exact system model? What is the OS installed on the system? When did the issue start?
Have you checked the settings for laptop lid closed action - check the link - http://bit.ly/18BrGEu and set the lid closed action to do nothing.
If you have already tried that, then, Update the BIOS from support.dell.com - http://dell.to/1Pwntme - enter the service tag and select drivers and downloads and run the BIOS update.
Reinstall the display link drivers - http://bit.ly/1FJ2lk3 - choose your appropriate OS - from the vendor site
or use an older and more stable version - http://dell.to/1JtjkPn - from Dell support site
If it has worked before at some point, then try a system restore - choose your appropriate OS - http://bit.ly/1sYgmYS
If not, try creating a new admin account and test the system with that account - choose your appropriate OS - http://bit.ly/1gFVsr9
Keep us updated.
