D630 display problem

Hi all,

Hope you can help. I've bought a used D630 - its a great laptop apart from this display issue.

After start-up I am getting horizontal lines covering nearly the whole screen, which slowly start to disappear on their own. It first started with only an inch or 2 of these lines at the bottom of the screen, and now it has progressed to covering almost the entire screen, but as I say they always go on their own without me doing anything. It takes about 3-5 mins to clear normally.

This doesn't happen when the laptop has been to sleep, or when the lid is simply closed and re-opened, it is only when it starts up, after shut down. It doesn't happen if I re-start the laptop.

Any help is much appreciated!

Hi Ravi,

Thanks for your reply. I have tried as you suggested and the colours did come up but the lines weren't present. Also when the computer started up after the colours the lines were still not there. It seems that it is only when the computer has been off for a longer period of time that this problem comes up.

I'll try the test again after the laptops been off for a while and see if the lines show then.

I have also tried taking a screenshot of the lines before and they didn't show up on the screenshot.

There seems to be problem with the LCD screen on your computer to confirm we will have to perform the ‘LCD BIST’ (Built in Self-test) on the computer. Please follow the steps mentioned below to run the “LCD BIST’.

1. Turn of the computer.

2.  Press and hold down the ‘D’ key on the keyboard and press the Power button.

3.  You will see different colors on the LCD screen. Please check if the vertical or horizontal lines are appearing on the screen.

If you see the vertical or horizontal lines appearing on the screen while the LCD bist is running you will have to replace the LCD.

Also, I would suggest you to check if the issue occurs on an external monitor.

Hi again,

I tried the colour test once more, after the laptop had been off all day.

The different colours showed fine without the lines, but after the colours had finished and the start-up screen came the lines are back once again!

Any ideas as I am really stuck on this one!

Thought I'd update this issue, it does actually occur when the laptop goes to sleep.

It seems to be anytime the display is off, either in sleep mode or shut down, for a couple of hours or more, that this occurs.

Hi tc5tew,

Checking of the system on an external display is the next ideal step as we can isolate if the issue is with the LCD screen or the Video card on the system board. Please let me know the concern you are facing when you connect the external display.

Also, please boot the system to the BIOS screen (F2 during startup) and check the display.
