D630 laptop Cant Upgrade BIOS due dead battery

Trying to update D630's BIOS to level required to install Windows 7 but error msg says 'Must have power on and battery installed'

System has long ago told me the battery 'should be replaced' but I dont care as I dont use it mobile anymore

Is there a work around to get the BIOS update installed so I can update to Windows 7

Hi PeterCorn,

Dell has designed in such a way that whenever you are updating the BIOS on the system the battery and the AC adapter are connected. There are no other ways to update the BIOS without the battery and AC adapter.

Hi Sentil

..does that mean that if the battery is 'faulty' I have to buy a new one update the BIOS, even though I only use it on mains to ?l

Hi PeterCorn,

Yes, you need to have a working battery and with minimum 15% charged to update the BIOS otherwise system will not allow it.
