Sounds like a bad inverter - but since this system uses the known faulty nVidia chip, it could be the video chip as well (yes, even if an external display is OK).

I am interested in EJN63's statement about having a good external monitor display even though the nVidia chip is bad. I have a D820 with Quadro NVS 110m that has had a pink background color on the LCD for about 3 months. It's a very even light pink color with no stripes, bar or other imperfections. The PC works fine otherwise. I do notice a slight out of registration in green colors especially on the startup screens.

Dell wants to sell me a new LCD but if it's the chip that's bad and new display won't help. Already tried a different backlight and the inverter seems ok. Will test with a known good inverter soon to make sure.

GPU-X.exe says the Shader Clock is at 0 MHz which seems strange since it's spec'd at 300 MHz which makes me suspicious of the chip.

Any further information on testing for a bad nVidia chip would be appreciated.
