Hi,

I have attached the pictures about step by step ODD removal procedure.

To SWAP the Optical drive with a SSD, You need have a kit which can house the SSD and fit it into the optical drive bay.

.

Using a small pointed instrument, push the optical disc drive slit to release the optical disc drive assembly from the drive bay

Hi,

Thanks a lot for your reply。 I have successfully installed the SSD.

But I have a new problem:  I have made a system recovery USB and I want to recover the system on the SSD. I tried the recovery process twice but I didn't find any step which let me choose the disk to install the OS.  It just recovered the system on the orignal hard disk. Can you advise me how to install the OS on the SSD?

Cheers.

Hi,

Can you fit the SSD in the HDD slot instead of DVD Drive slot?

Install the OS like we normally do, Check It goes through.

The system recovery you created, Was it done through Dell backup and recovery software?

Thanks

Remove the hard drive from the system, mount the SSD in its place, and then do the system recovery.  Once it's up and running, you can then connect the hard drive to the system.

Hi,

Congrats on the new Laptop with SSD speed performance.

I'm in the same boat and about to order the same laptop (Dell Inspiron 5558) and going to install SSD on internal HDD bay and HHD goes in caddy.

Can you please tell me which HDD Caddy have you installed ? 12mm, 9.5mm or 7mm ?

Thanks a lot for the advices I've got from this thread, my SSD is now working as the OS drive.

to PRO.TECHNOLOGIST: you need to buy the 9.5mm one.
