Dark Screen Inspiron E1505

Yesterday I came home from work, awakened my 2-yr old Inspiron E1505 from sleep mode and found that the screen was incredibly dark.   I tried restarting a couple of times, but that didn't help at all - the screen is consistently dark.  There is a faint display, but  it's too dark to operate.  It was working fine about 9 hrs prior to awakening, and has never had a previous problem.  There is also no chance that anything happened to it while I was away because I keep my room door shut and locked.

I've connected to an external monitor, and the screen works fine on the external monitor.

Any ideas as to what's wrong, or what happened?  Is this fixable, or should I start researching a new laptop?

Thanks!

Bad backlight or inverter - either repair, about $100 with an LCD repair specialist.

I posted this exact same message on another post so hopefully this can help if you haven't already fixed it:

I had the exact same problem two years ago and then last year the screen finally kicked the bucket and I had to get a new computer all together.  But my temporary fix was to remove the entire panel over the power button area, there is a little "plug" near the power button (almost under the keyboard) that is probably coming connected and unconnected.  It's a little less than an inch wide and really skinny.  This controls the backlight, I believe.  If you push it back together, then reboot, it should be fine (at least until it comes unhooked again).  Before I figured this out, I actually paid someone $300 to replace my entire screen... and then it still kept happening, so I just dug around under the panel until I found something to fix it myself.  However, eventually, the screen broke all together and I couldn't even see the faint images anymore (not to mention that the screws broke completely in one of the hinges and it wouldn't open or close).  But hopefully this will help!
