Dell 17R SE 7720 - Clicking sound (fan or hard drive)

I have a Dell 17R SE 7720 laptop - over the the last week or two I have noticed a 'clicking' that is coming from the left hand side of the laptop. The problem doesn't happen all the time however I didn't happen when I bought it last year.

I have uploaded a video of my laptop here to indicate the problem, since I have got some compressed air to blow out dust from the vents which does seem to have helped, but the clicking hasn't actually 100% stopped.

Dell Support suggested I do the F12 pre-boot assessment, this doesn't show any problems with the fans or hard drives, so I cannot be 100% certain of the problem.

Either way it is definitely fan or hard drive related - can anyone assist?

Hi zabius,

Could you please check where exactly the noise is coming from? Are you having any heating issues ?

Hi there Shrikanth,

I am also having this issue with the same laptop. The clicking sound appears to be coming from either the fan or the hard drive. It clicks an average of once a minute.

I still have warranty left, so would this be something that I need to get my hard drive replaced for?

Please let me know what you recommend...

Thanks.
