Dell 968w AOI Printer

I had to reload my OS, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit with Service Pack1.  I been unable to reconfigure my Dell AIO (All-In-One) 968w since that time.

I've tried reloading from the original installation disk, driver R172789.exe (per Dell Technical Support) and driver R241825.exe (per Dell Driver website).  Has anyone been able to get their Dell AOI 968w to work with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit with Service Pack 1.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Hi GBPoer,

Could you please let me know the error message that you get while configuring the printer.

In order to configure the printer driver with computer, uninstall the previous installation of printer. There are two ways you can configure the printer with your computer: USB Connection Setup and Ethernet Connection Setup.

To uninstall printer drivers completely:

Click on Start/Windows logo on desktop -- > Control panel -- > Programs and features -- > Locate Dell 968 printer -- > Right click and uninstall -- > Restart your computer (Make sure that printer USB cable is disconnected from the computer).

You can download the printer driver from the link: http://dell.to/RxRceA

Steps to download drivers:-

  • Click 'Download file' to download the list to a folder you will designate.
  • Click 'Save'. Then designate the folder you would like to save the files to.
  • Once you have designated the folder you would like to save your files to, Click 'OK'.
  • Selected downloads will automatically start downloading. Next is Installation.
  • To start installation, Click Open folder. Right-click a downloaded file and select the option to ‘Run as administrator’.
  • A small window will appear with 'Continue' and 'Exit' buttons, click 'Continue'.
  • In the Select the folder where you want to unzip the files to window, click OK.

  • The Firewall Exceptions warning appears. Click Next to continue.

  • The software and driver installation begins. It can take several minutes for this portion of the installation to complete.

  • After the software and drivers are installed, the Congratulations, Setup Complete screen appears. Click the Test Page button to print a test page.

  • The printer software starts to search for applications that work with the such as photo software. This search takes about 5 to 10 minutes.

Try using your computer and see if it works. If issue still persists, you can uninstall the printer same way and follow the steps for Ethernet Connection Setup given below:

  • Select the type of installation. Select 'Typical Install' to install all the software and help files or select 'Advanced Install' to select the software to be installed. Click 'Next' to begin the installation.

  • The software and driver installation begins. It can take several minutes for this portion of the installation to complete.
  • After the software and drivers are installed, the 'Congratulations', 'Setup Complete' screen appears. Click the Test Page button to print a test page.
  • The printer software starts to search for applications that work with the such as photo software. This search takes about 5 to 10 minutes.

GBPoer,

When you reinstalled the operating system, did you install the Desktop/Notebook system software(if applicable) and the chipset drivers first? If not, the rest of the drivers will fail to install. How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order

Start with the Desktop/Notebook system software and the chipset drivers and follow the list.

After that is corrected...

First run Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print job in the queue.

Disconnect the printer.

Start, control panel, programs and features, Dell 968w printer, uninstall.

Restart your computer. Make sure the printer is removed. Manual Printer Driver Removal

Download the Vista 32-bit drivers for Windows 7 32-bit or the Vista 64-bit drivers for Windows 7 64-bit. Install the Vista drivers in the Vista Compatibility mode You'll get a message, the printer is not connected. Connect the printer at this time(powered on).

Links to the drivers can be found at...
