Dell C640 CPU Upgrade

Hi, I had the processor on my Dell Latitude C640 upgraded to 2.4G from the original 1.6G.  But Intel CPU utility reports the unit only runs at 1.2G.  I have disable the speed step and I am using the right AC adaptor (90W).  I would like to know what's going on.

Can't answer your question, but I was just going to post a message asking if it was possible.  Please post if you figure out if the new proc will work.  Thanks!!!

I put a 2.2gHz in my C640 and although it ran at 2200mHz, Windows reported it as running much slower.  Third party programs like I8fangui and Intel's CPU id progam reported 2200mHz. The BIOS reported 2200mhz.  After reinstalling Dell's chipset driver, Windows began to report it at 2200mHz.  Also, remember that you must force the notebook to always run at full speed in WindowsXP by changing the power scheme from Portable/Laptop to Home/Office Desk.  If you leave it in the default Portable/Laptop power scheme, then the CPU will constantly adjust it's speed based on the load.  I personally don't care about battery life, so I leave mine in Home/Office Desk.  (To adjust the setting: Right click the desktop, select Properties, Screen Saver tab, Power button)

As always, make sure you have the latest BIOS, currently A09.
