Dell Inspiron 15 (3521) screen shutdown

Hi,

A couple of months ago I bought a Dell Inspiron 15 (3521) laptop. On several occasions, while being unused, the screen shuts down. Most of the times if I touch the touch pad, the screen comes up & works normally but sometimes it would not come up and continue to be black. Even pressing the power button doesn't help and the laptop has to be force shutdown by pressing the power button for long.

Below is the system history showing the RED colored "force shutdown" events

Not sure what the reason is but any suggestion would be helpful.

Thanks

Sandeep

Hi Sandeep,

If the computer boots into windows, try a BIOS update from the following link:

http://dell.to/10sDzVc

  • During BIOS update verify that the computer is connected to an AC Adapter.
  • Disconnect any third party peripherals connected to the computer before performing BIOS update.
  • Do not turn off the computer during the BIOS update.
  • Do not restart the computer during the BIOS update.
  • Ensure battery charge is more than 30% during BIOS update.

Note: Plug your computer to a good, working wall jack before you update the BIOS. If you experience a loss of AC power or a significant voltage sag/spike during the BIOS flash, you will either have to buy a new BIOS chip or buy a new motherboard.

Refer the following link which has steps to resolve the issue:

Awaiting your response!

Hi,

I updated the BIOS 20 days ago but the same thing has occurred just now. Not sure if it is a hardware or a software issue.

Its a Hardware issue .. Don't waste your time into Bios and any software updates..,, just change your I/O controller chip on main board .. your problem will resolve permently
