Dell Inspiron 1545 Keyboard Problem; Single button improperly typing
As of late my "D" has begun to malfunction: not typing when pressed, double typing the letter or if left alone for a few minutes after being pressed, goes on a typing spree; repeatedly typing the letter until the "D" key or {For me} the left control key is pressed. Is there a way to fix this?

Sadly, I've not had a warranty for over a year, and could not afford a new one.

Sounds like you need a new keyboard. If it is still under warranty, contact Dell for a replacement.

Then you can purchase a keyboard and install it yourself. They are not that expensive.
Here is a site that has one for sale:

You can download the manual for your system by Clicking Here.

P.S. leaving your laptop on for extended periods will roast your keyboard. trust me, I know. Get yourself a cooling pad.

I bought a new keyboard (exact replacement) at Amazon.com for 9 bucks and installed it in 5 minutes!
You can google for an installation video.

I had this exact same problem with an XPS m1530(Exact same key even). Unfortunately, my issue was a motherboard fault and not the keyboard. There is a simple test to check for which issue you are experiencing. During a time when your "D" key is not malfunctioning, attach a USB keyboard to laptop and use that instead of the on-board keyboard. If you continue to experience the issue while using the USB keyboard, then the problem is likely a fault on your motherboard. If you don't experience the issue while using the USB keyboard, then a simple on-board keyboard replacement should fix the problem.
