Dell Inspiron 17 left alt key malfunction (multiple keys activated when pressing the left alt key)

I own a Dell Inspiron 17 5767 laptop, and have encountered the a problem as shown in the image below:

When I press the left alt key on the laptop, it activates multiple keys, including the F4 key, and forces the windows that I've opened to close. This is not due to other keys being stuck, since I've tried the on-screen keyboard, on which the left alt key works perfectly. The right alt key works as it's supposed to.

I also tried the left alt key in safe mode, which still malfunctions as shown here.

Is this due to corrupted registry? Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Hi leochi,

Thanks for posting.
It doesn't sound like your registry is corrupted, but sounds more like your keyboard needs to be reset.

Here is some information from another user http://www.thewindowsclub.com/reset-keyboard-settings-default-windows

If that's not working for you, then please run a systems diagnostics by pressing F12 at startup or by running Dell Support Assist.  Make a note of any errors you encounter and contact Tech Support.  You can contact Tech Support at 1-800-624-9896  or 1-800-288-4410, or you can initiate a chat session http://dell.to/2v4snVm
