Dell Inspiron 910 Mini Hard Drive Space

Question

I just bought a used Dell Mini Inspiron 910. The STEC PATA 8 GB hard drive shows 6.28 GB used space out of a capacity of 7.63 GB, and only 419 MB of unused space available. This is after I used Windows Explorer to eliminate over a GB of documents and photos and uninstalled all but the essential software. If I total up the disk space used by the remaining programs (using the file sizes from the Add/Remove Programs screen), they only use a little over a GB. What’s taking up all that HDD space and how do I free up some GB for my own programs and documents?

As you have mentioned that the hard drive installed on this computer is 8 GB. I am sure the operating system that is installed is Windows XP service pack 3, which takes about 2GB space. I would like to know what applications are installed on the computer. I would request you to list the name of the applications so that I can assist you further.
