Dell Latitude D800 No Sound

There is no sound on my dell except for the shift key beeping and the "when you click outside a window and the window flashes and beeps" sound. Both these sounds work with and without the Sigmatel driver installed. I have never seen this issue before on any computer and I've looked everywhere and I'm stuck.

I have a Dell latitude d800 with XP SP3.

There is no sound from the audio jacks.
I replaced windows XP with windows 7 and absolutely no sound worked, but the driver was installed. So, i switched back to XP, because at least the Sticky keys sound works.

Hello. did you follow the order of installation when installing the Sigmatel driver? That would be

1. Dell Note book System Software R154270.EXE

2. Intel Mobile Chipset software R114079.EXE

3. Sigmatel audio driver

If you did that and still no sound, you need to determine if the audio hardware is still functioning. Do that by running the Dell 32-bit Diagnostics audio tests. This is the download.

Here are instructions for loading the diagnostics onto a flash drive

Here are instructions for running the audio tests in the diagnostics.

I'm sorry that did not work.

The most likely reason you have no audio is that the audio hardware on the motherboard has failed. A fresh installation of Windows XP like you did would fix any issues with the Windows software, and installing the Sigmatel driver in the correct order would have the driver working, so what's left to go wrong is the hardware.

{When you installed Win7, because there is no Win7 Sigmatel driver for the D800, you would have had to install the Vista version of the driver, using Vista compatibility mode.]
