I work for a small company and we use the Dell Latitude series on everyday basis (E5430/E5530/E5430U/E6430).  I recently noticed that these Latitude E-Class laptops comes equipped with smart card reader under the palm rest.  I was originally thinking about encrypting each laptops with Truecrypt and password authentication. 

However, since the laptop already comes equipped with smart carder reader, I would like to know if it would be possible to use smartcard as one of the token for initial encryption login.  Example steps shown below:

Turn on computer > Insert smart card and enter authentication password > enter Windows login credential > Windows

On the Truecrypt website, it states that "TrueCrypt supports security (or cryptographic) tokens and smart cards that can be accessed using the PKCS #11   (2.0 or later) protocol [23]"

 

I would really appreciate if someone can help me out on this case... It would be great if the smart card can become a token for encrypted Dell E-series for added security, and we could also use the smartcard as the company ID card as well.
