Dell Model Number Decoder?
My Latitude CPt S600GT is out of warranty and now has an mechanical motherboard problem that causes it to lockup or reboot unexpectedly. I'm considering replacing it with an identical machine so that I can just drop in the hard-drive from my old unit and continue computing.
I'm having trouble finding the exact same model (S600GT) on the used market. I find other units like the V600 or S600ST, but I don't know what the difference will be compared to my existing unit. Since these are discontinued units is there anywhere I can go to find a dell part number decoder that explains the meaning of the model numbers? Or do I need to worry about it as long as its a CPt S model?

Any reputable vendor should be able to tell you whether the MOBO will work in your particular system. Given the amount of time and money that can be involved in replacing a MOBO, it's a good idea to try to locate one from someplace like the outfit below, rather than taking your chances on something someone is hustling in E-Bay.

I do not know of any list you seek, but I know some information which might help you. The trailing 2 letters indicate teh screen size/resolution/ ST = 12.1" (800x600), XT = 13.3" (1024x768), GT = 14.1"(1280x1024 I think)...
