Dell Precision M3800 - 32GB RAM
While the specification say only 2x8GB RAM modules are supported. Is there way to make 2x16GB modules work? E.g.

Sorry to break the bad news. Upgraded BIOS to the newest version as of today 01/04/2017 which is A10. No dice. Tried 2x 16GB DDR3L 1600 SODIMMs from Crucial. DOES NOT BOOT :-(

Lorinchever - Have you had any feedback? I'm also about to consider a 16GBx2 Upgrade for my Precision 3800. Just wish to know if this is working OK...

Hi,
Hopefully Lorinchever will reply with a definitive answers if they tried the 2x16 memory chips but I don't think it's going to work, to be honest. The chances are the BIOS wouldn't support that much memory. It's possible it will work, and I can't say definitively that it won't. You could try the latest BIOS version (Version A10, A10) that came out about 4 months ago and see if that helps. Or see if Windows 10 would utilize it. But my guess is that it won't.
Sorry to say that, and I hope Lorinchever or some other forum user who has tried it can provide a definitive answer, that's why I'm bumping this thread.

I cannot justify to buy those modules just for testing. I was trying to poke around on geekbench if somebody had test with Intel Core i7-4712HQ (Dell Precision M3800) and 32GB RAM but I couldn't find any.

According to I think the latest version of PC Wizard (software has since been withdrawn at cpuid.com for whatever reason) it lists the largest module size under the Memory Controller info as 16GB (for max total of 32GB). So per the memory controller, the largest module it can handle is 16GB. DDR3 uses the same address lines for rows and columns so it should work. Please note YMMV and this is not confirmed by me. Only this theory states it should work.
Maybe one day I'll have a chance to actually test this out.

I"ve been reading more on this and seems the BIOS was never modified to allow >8GB modules despite the hardware accepting it. I'm trying to get more info from Dell but looks like this is a bust.
