Dell QuickSet Location Profiler does not save profile. (Precision M65)

Hi..

Problem (Dell QuickSet, Location Profiler): After creating a new profile, the application does not save my profile. I can save the profile and apply it, but when restarting the application, there is no profile and all settings are lost.

I've tried reinstalling QuickSet, same problem.

Dell Precision M65 w/ Intel Pro Wireless
2 Gig ram
Windows-XP SP2
QuickSet version: R131817.EXE

Additionally information:

If choosing "No Network profiles associated with my location profile." The profile is saved, and is still there after restarting QuickSet. So is seems to be related to the Intel Wireless card.

I also have this same problem on my M90.  Is there a fix for not being able to save a Location Profile?

I have been able to resolve the problem I had with the Dell Quickset Location Profiler.  As many have experienced, sometimes the Dell Quickset software would not save the Location Profile Settings that I entered.  I have found that this is due to a conflict between the Dell Quickset software and the latest versions of Intel's drivers for the Intel 3945ABG wireless card.  (This problem may also exist with other wireless cards, but I have only confirmed it with the Intel 3945ABG.)  You may have noticed that if you are connecting to a wireless network, Dell Quickset does not properly identify the SSID Broadcast name of your network.  Instead, it may have the name of your SSID Broadcast, followed by a bunch of garbage characters.  Here is how I fixed the problem:

On Dell's support website, I went to the downloads section and browsed to the downloads for the Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection.  Just below where it says 'Download Now', there is a link to 'Older Versions'.  Click this link.  On the page that appears, pick the download dated 6/13/2006.  It is version 10.1.1.4 of the software and drivers for the 3945ABG wireless card.  Select that link, and choose 'Download Now' on the resulting page.  The file name of the download is R127811.EXE.  After downloading the file, run it and let it extract the files to the default location.  After the files are extracted, do NOT allow the software installer to run.  Cancel the installation.  Then, go to the Start menu in Windows, right-click 'My Computer' and select 'Manage'.  Browse to the Device Manager, then locate Network adapters and expand that branch.  Right-click the Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection and choose 'Update Driver'.  When you get to the 'Select Network Adapter' page, choose 'Have Disk' and browse to the location that the files for R127811.exe were extracted.  When you get to the 127811 folder, browse to the Drivers subfolder and say OK.  Let Windows install the driver it finds.

After doing this, your Dell Quickset Location Profiler should work properly.  Cheers!!

I also had the same issue, which Dell had no clue how to solve.
