RE: Dell Studio 1555 Battery Failure

That means the system doesn't recognize the adapter -- is it a Dell adapter or a third-party adapter?

RE: Dell Studio 1555 Battery Failure

I bought this battery from ebay, so probably it counts as a third-party.right?

RE: Dell Studio 1555 Battery Failure

The battery isn't the issue - not the primary one anyway.  If the system doesn't recognize the AC adapter, the battery won't charge.  Try another Dell (NOT third party) adapter first.  If that doesn't get the adapter recognized, replace the DC jack:

and if that doesn't do it, replace the mainboard.

The battery may or may not be an issue, but until you have a recognized AC adapter, you won't know.

RE: Dell Studio 1555 Battery Failure

First, try a new power adapter (Dell OEM - NOT third party).  If that doesn't solve the problem, the problem is with the power jack or the mainboard and you'll need an internal repair.

RE: Dell Studio 1555 Battery Failure

Hi Rafiem,

I would suggest you to try flashing the BIOS on the system if the battery charge is more than 20%. Please enter your service tag # on the link below, select the operating system, and then download the BIOS from the BIOS section onto the system and install it.

Also, please use the system with a known good AC adapter and check the AC Adapter status in the BIOS.

Please let me know if this helps.

RE: Dell Studio 1555 Battery Failure

I'm having some trouble with my AC adapter of the Dell Studio 1555 and I found your BIOS-Screenshot in this forum.
This is exactly what happens to me:

AC Adapter Type    None

I've been looking around in forums, purchased a new battery, a new AC adapter and a new DC plug and replaced it, but the problem remains.
The BIOS version is A13 which I can't flash/update because the program says that there is no AC-adapter (although it is plugged in). I also took the CMOS battery out for a while and restarted the laptop, but besides having to change time and date nothing changes.
I've tested both AC adapter and battery on another Dell laptop (Studio 1537) and they both work fine!

You know the problem, the laptop works with the adapter, but the battery doesn't charge.

Do you have a clue what could be happening?

I'd kindly appreciate your help.

Thanks a lot.

RE: Dell Studio 1555 Battery Failure

One of three things is bad:

1.  try a new Dell OEM AC adapter first.  If that doesn't solve the issue,

2.  Replace the DC Jack:

http://www.parts-people.com/index.php?action=item&id=5950

If that doesn't do it,

3.  Replace the mainboard.

This is not a BIOS issue - and a BIOS update will not solve it.  It's a hardware failure of the adapter, jack or mainboard.
