Dell Studio 1737
I am using a Dell Studio 1737 with Ubuntu OS:
This lap top will not charge. When plugged in, white light appears for a second or so, then goes out. Occasionally I am getting Error Code 71 with a line of text that, except for "device descriptor Error Code 71" I have as yet been unable to record before screen goes dark. The computer now seems to be running fine on AC however I am wondering what caused screen to show error code then go black several times, and why now it seems to be operating OK but not charging?
Has anyone experienced this or similar problem with this device? Any ideas?

Go into the BIOS setup - if the AC adapter shows "unknown", the battery won't charge. F2 at powerup to check.
If that's the case, try a new Dell adapter (NOT a third party unit). If that does not solve the problem, you have a bad power jack or a bad mainboard; the power jack would be the first thing to replace.
