Dell Studio XPS 16 problems with Windows Server 2008 and Hyper-V and with webcam

Hello,

I just received my new Dell Studio XPS 16 with 8Gb RAM. I installed it with a Windows Server 2008 R2 enterprise edition.

I encountered two problems:

1- When I install webcam utilities, the utilities run... but image is black, as if webcam was not recognized. I tested it with the original Windows 7 Pro installed and it worked. Some missing driver/beature for WS2008 ? I installed "ManyCam 2.4" and this works fine !

2- more annoying. I installed Windows Server 2008 R2, then Virtual PC x64. It works fine and I can run my VPCs. Then I stopped all VPCs and restarted my laptop. Still fine. Then I added the Hyper-V Role. It requested a system reboot that I accepted... but then no more reboot. It made a memory dump and looped again to boot. In safe mode, I can't access to console to remove the role... I tried to repair it from the CD, no way !. Finally I started the full install without Hyper-V. Any idea ? Did someone install Hyper-V successfully on Dell Studio XPS 16

Thanks for any help !

Gilbert

Hello, first off for your webcam are you running drivers that are compatable with WS 2008? Sometimes there are tweaks they do for the mainstream OS and not the business OS.. Second, Hyper V will not work unless your processor has that functionality... Not all of the processors come with hyper-v...

THNAKS.

1- On Dell site I was not able to find any WIndows Server 2008 driver for webcam... and ManyCam works, so, in my mind, drivers are ok

2- It's a i7 720 quadcore with 8GB RAM. BIOS VT is enabled.

Does it help you for helping me ?

Thanks again and best regards !
