I actually did run the diags, and a couple of other freeware tools I found on the web. All reported the battery is totally fine...no issues. Funny too, the batter sure won't keep a charge. I'm using the original AC adapter too that came w/the laptop.
My vote is the battery if you're using the official Dell brand power supply that came with the laptop.
You could try the Dell Diagnostics and see if there is a test for the battery. I don't remember but that's cheaper than a battery. Press F10 when you see the logo on boot or burn a copy of the diagnostics CD and boot that.
