Dell XPS 13 - Random reboot / windows crash

i'm surprised your 13 days old XPS came with 2.2.1 when 2.3.0 was the current version up until 2 days ago.

where have you read that 2.4.2 still reboots?

I bought xps 13 two days ago, so it comes with bios 2.2.1  and i didnt downgrade it yet. If 2.4.2 is good solution for upgrade, but i read it still has reboots. Otherwise i  will downgrade it to 2.1.0.

I said i will wait for the user experience of 2.4.2

When i bought it it had (and still has) v2.2.1 18 august - under system information.

Currently speaking to a Dell technician. He personally recommends downgrading to BIOS 2.1.0 as that is the fix that seems to be working for everyone. He just helped me install 2.1.0 on my own Dell XPS 13, so the timer starts...let's see if this thing shuts down. If after 3 weeks, there is not a single shut down, then it is confirmed: BIOS 2.1.0 is the fix.

we all know v2.1.0 is the fix.

the question now is does 2.4.2. also fix the problem as that version was only released 3 days ago.

2.4.2 STATUS: I've had this reset 5 times in the last 7 days. Yesterday while running Ubuntu in a virtual machine, and watching a class using Chrome in Windows my XPS 13 reset 3 times by chapter 5. Then, the notification popped up for BIOS 2.4.2, and I excitedly updated it. After updating to 2.4.2, I set everything up the same as it was when the resets occurred and played the class again through chapter 5 (couple hours) with Ubuntu running in the VM with no reset. I was trying to mimic how it was running when the resets occurred. So far so good. I really hope 2.4.2 solved the problem. I really like this laptop, but the reset issue is unacceptable.

I received my XPS 13 on Nov 21 and started having this problem soon after. Dell support helped me reinstall windows 10 but didn't mention the bios at all. I was about to call support again today to take the next steps when I finally found this post, and very happy I did. I was on the verge of returning the laptop, as my 30 days is about to expire, but I really like this laptop and didn’t want to return it.

sounds hopeful, I'm still sticking with 2.1.0 until a bit more testing is done. I contacted a Dell support person saying I had already updated all BIOS and drivers and just got a generic reply telling me to update my BIOS. I was then contacted by their supervisor asking if the issue was fixed so I explained the situation and that there were many others with the same problem. He then said he passsed it on to the development team not sure how much good that'll do.

Same here. Updated a few days ago, not using the PSU, down to 49% on the battery and still no re-boot. Fingers crossed.

I haven't reboot since updated to the bios 2.4.2

i have rejected the verified answer as i don't believe enough time has passed yet to conclusively confirm the issue is resolved.

once i have tested over a period of time i will confirm whether this is now resolved or not.

Updated BIOS to 2.4.2 and no more resets for 5 days now.

I would update to 2.4.2 but yesterday night my system became completely bricked, it won't turn on at all. Someone will come to collect it tomorrow for repairs and it should be returned in a week or so
