Dell XPS 14Z Keyboard Problems

On my Dell XPS 14z laptop, on certain websites when I go to type it comes out numbers going in numerical order. So if I type out 'Hello there' it would be 01234 56789 and the numbers would restart again from zero. This only happens on some websites such as Tinychat. On others like Facebook it's fine and types normally. I've already tried restarting my computer, and I don't see a num lock key.

Hi rlennon,

Welcome to the Community,

Use the On-Screen keyboard while using those application(where its typing numbers)  and see if it types normally. To access On-Screen keyboard, press the Windows key and type osk  (in search bar) and press enter.

Also on the On-Screen keyboard, check for Num Lock key,if you don't see it click on Options and enable Numeric Keypad.

Let me know if it types normally, while using this On-Screen keyboard.

Thank You

I am having the same problem intermittently when using my browser (either Internet Explorer or Firefox).  Right now it is working properly, but this afternoon it was behaving as described above.

I have an Inspiron 14Z (5423).  I can't find a Num Lock key on my keyboard.  Where is it?  Or does it not have one because there is no numeric keypad on the keyboard?

Also, is there supposed to be a Sleep button on this keyboard - if so, which button is it?

Thank you.

Computer Info (Typing ASCII on XPS 14z Running Windows 7)

To pull up On Screen Keyboard to type ASCII on XPS 14z Laptop, use the following process.  To add text info into Photoshop using ASCII is may be easier to type it in word, then copy and paste.

Click Windows Icon (Open Windows Start Menu)

In the “Search Programs and Files” field, type OSK (For On Screen Keyboard)

Depress

An on screen keyboard should pop up.

For example to create a Copyright symbol © using ASCII

Hold down the Alt Key on your physical keyboard

While Holding the Alt Key use your cursor or touchpad and on the On Screen Keyboard

Move to 0 and left click

Move to 1 and left click

Move to 6 and left click

Move to 9 and left click

On your physical keyboard Depress

The © should appear

This doesn't work.  The only way I have found so far to enter ASCII in Photoshop to get the (C) symbol is by connecting another keyboard.  I tried using a separate numeric keypad, but that did not work either.
