Dell XPS 15Z - 3 Years of Issues
Dell,
After contemplating many options, I purchased your Dell XPS 15z back on the 28th June 2011 for approximately $1800 inc. 3 years warranty after reading many positive reviews.
During the past 3 years I have faced the following issues:
1. 2012 - Dell Technician advised that the battery required replacing as it was not charging.
2. 2013 - Dell Technician advised that the motherboard required replacing as the laptop automatically turned off when the AC Adapter was not plugged in. I was advised by the technician that the replacement would be a refurbished motherboard and not a new one.
3. 2014 - Battery will not charge with the AC Adapter connected and powered. Dell Technician has advised that I will need to replace last year's received Refurbished Motherboard and also the DC-In Cable. Due to my 3 year warranty expiring a week ago, I have been advised that these replacements will need to be paid out of my own pocket. I received the following quoted prices today by email: Motherboard - with i7 - 2620M Processor (01RFH) will cost me $1454.05, DC-In Cable (XM7CK) $33 and Installation $170.50 = Total $1657.55.
When considering buying a $1800 'high-performance' branded laptop from a well known company like Dell, I would expect to get approximately 3 years of effective usage with no issues. However, the experience I have encountered with this XPS 15z has been plagued with issues and very unpleasant.
I am happy to discuss this in more detail with a relevant Dell Representative to resolve this issue, however, if I am not satisfied with the resolution I will need to consider taking my future business elsewhere.
Thanks.

The boards cost nowhere near that much - they're about $300. Add another $100 for a shop to install it, plus another $30 for the cable and you're about 1/4 the price you were quoted.

You won't get a response on an out of warranty system.

Thanks for the advice. I will have to reconsider my options if no one at Dell responds.
