Just got the same laptop, have the same problem with the graphics drivers from nvidia,
I am especially dissapointed that you need the latest drivers to be able to use 3dvision (youtube 3d site) with a web browser and,
that I cannot use an upto date driver for the latest games which are now supported by nvidia
sent an email to tech support last week to get an answer for this, absolutely nothing, been reading another thread about the a14 bios, all I can say is very shoddy by dell, it does not seem like dell know what they are doing and they can have this computer back and they can give me my money back. it is not fit for purpose.
Did you try to download the driver from dell support website? Since you are not sure if the driver was installed successfully, you can consider uninstalling the existing driver by going to Device Manager, display adapters, right click uninstall on the video card listed. If it gives an option to put a check mark on the box which says delete driver software do that and click Ok.
Reboot the system, download and install the driver from the link below:
Same problem in here. I have issue with OpenGL which is very obviously problem with dell XPS 17 having GeForce GT 555M.
The shame is price I paid for this awkward and heavy machine... By specification is an animal 3gb graphic and 12gb ram but in reality my iPad works better and faster... Even after 6 mounts Dell is not capable to fix configuration / driver issue.
And guys, I am not talking about games... I am talking about basic programs like FireFox and Photoshop.

Just an update for those who have similar problems
I just found out that the problem lies in the bios firmware (I have A14, which wasn't mean't to be released)
so this asks another series of questions,
if i download the A12 bios will it install without me mucking about?
If it installs without hickup will there be any problems with software i.e. do i have to reinstall anything?
and so if the answer to the above questions are yes and no (respectivly) can i then update graphics drivers etc without a problem?
Any answer would be great.
Thanks Very Much

The problem is with the bios version A14, it will not allow updates......but it will let you install the latest beta drivers from nvidia.
Dell have released as update for the bios (A16), but I am going to wait a while and see how it goes, as some people have had problems with the install
according to their comments on these forums.
My laptop is working well on these drivers, running games like Battlefield 3 and metro 2033 on high specs and also in 3d mode.
I also have a logged support call over this issue, and am still waiting for a reply from dell !!!

Try uninstall Mac Afee?
If not, install the software called LatencyMon and launch it to diagnostic where does the problem come from.
