Dell laptop XPS L701x overheating problem and shutdown.

Hi,

I have a problem regarding  my laptop I get constantly shutdowns every 15 minutes if i am lucky or if i play a video o game it will shutdown by freezing up.

What can it be the problem or how to fix it? overheating problem cleaning the fan? replacing it? or maybe other issue?

If in any case is the fan that requires cleaning is there a manual for doing so?

Thanks,

Ricardo

Hi,

Welcome to the community

Please try updating the BIOS first see this link ; http://dell.to/IDtgnW (make sure the ac adapter and battery is connected)

Then observe the computer if still shuts down. Also, check the air vents, if there are any dust or obstructions, this will affect the air circulation inside the laptop. If you want to clean up the internal parts, check this manual http://dell.to/IRehYf (Disassembly of internal parts requires a certified technician) Any End-User induced damage will not be covered by your limited warranty.

Regards,

I was having the same issue. The heat pipe/sink from the cpu and gpu clogs with dust and blowing it out isn't quite enough.

This guide will tell you how to disassemble and then you can clean the fan and give the heat sink a thorough cleaning. I was getting 20 min before my sound would start to get choppy and performance would get glitch before the bsod and 3 beep shutdown. Just cleaned mine 3 hours ago and it's been flawless since playing Diablo 3
