Dell xps m1330 overheating problems!! :(

I have had my xps m1330 for 2 years now, had to have the motherboard replaced twice to a grapichs problem. The last time this was done 13/02/2009 the tech guy didn't even put the laptop back together properly, and when he had gone i tried to switch the laptop on only to find it switch off straight away?

I was confused, so i checked if it was out of battery which it wasn't? Rang Dell and after a long chat was told that the tech guy maynot have replaced the fan correctly and the issue would be resloved that day?

Well its 17/02/2009 and i had no contact, so i rang them only to be told that nothing had been agranged and i would have to pay in excess of £70 for a new heat shrink and a new motherboard? I said this is not on as it was working with just the graphic issues before the tech came and tried to explain that the system may not have been put back together properly by there guy, but this was like talking to a brick wall.

So now after alot of complaning there is a tech coming on 19/02/2009 to change the motherboard, which in my oppion is still working but i can not tell as i am still left with a laptop which will not turn on and when it does just powers down after about 5 mintues?

If any one has anything i can try could you let me know thanks

PS i have cleaned the fan with a compressed air can which i do regularly anyway, and the last time i switched the laptop on it was running Bois a15 i think.

Thanks again

Hello,

If you turn your laptop over there is a panel with 3 screws. Undo those, lift the panel up and youll see the fan, next to it will be a tiny connector. Make sure that is plugged in. Should be simple. Thanks

The overheating problems seams to be really widespread with the Dell computers. I had the motherboard to my XPS m1330 replaced too. Because of the high heat level the GPU fails. And because the GPU is fastened to the motherboard they just replace the hole thing. Until the warranty expires. :emotion-12:

Dell is being sued exactly because of the same overheating problem, at certain older generatios of Dell laptops. The website of the lawfirm dealing with the suit states:

"As set forth in the complaint, plaintiffs allege Dell Inspiron 1100, 1150, 5100 and 5160 notebooks are designed and manufactured with three uniform and inherent defects:

  • The notebooks' cooling systems are inadequate to dissipate the heat generated through normal use;
  • The power supply system prematurely fails when used as intended; and
  • The motherboards on the notebooks prematurely fail."

Just do a Google search and you'll find out more.

Its disapointing that Dell didn't address the problem by now. I will certainly not by any Dell computer. EVER!
