Device (Ipod) Not Found

Does anyone have any ideas what would be preventing my Inspiron 5100 from recognizing my IPOD plugged into the USB?

A little background:
  • Just received a new IPOD from Apple because last one went corrupt. My last day with old Ipod was spent trying to restore it, but at least that day it was recognized when plugged into the USB
  • Other USB devices work- Wireless mouse and keyboard and printer both recognize when plugged in- I have tried numerous times
  • Yes, I have restarted the computer with the Ipod plugged in, and tried plugging it in after start-up
  • Yes, I have reset the Ipod both while plugged into the USB and not plugged in
  • Yes, I have tried using the intial set up CD from original purchase

I am beyond frustrated- If anyone can help, I would appreciate it...

When the Ipod is connected, and you check the device manager. (control panel -> system -> hardware -> device manager). Is there a yellow sign at one of the USB devices?

If so, remove the device, then remove the Ipod from the USB port and restart the computer. Attach the Ipod when windows is booted. Windows should reload the driver now. If there is still a problem it should be mentioned in a popup in the right bottom corner of the screen.

Ok, I tried your suggestion, but none of the devices in device manager have the yellow sign- all of them state the devices are working properly, but it still is not recognized.  I tried all the same steps I had listed above tonight and still cannot get the device to be recognized.   :smileymad:
