Device Manager errors

After a fresh W10 1703 fully updated install on a 3148 Inspiron laptop, four OTHER DEVICES appear in Device Manager: PCI Data Aqquisition and Signal Processing Controller and three 'unknown devices.' "Drivers not installed; no compatible driver can be found."

Intel's update utility reports nothing missing. SFC is good and PC operation is normal.
The errant entries are redetected at boot even if disabled, or uninstalled via Safe Mode.

Best I can tell, these are all related to the Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework, as suspected.  Earlier, two drivers with that general designation, yet unique, were added after the install.

Problem is, the drivers listed by Dell for the 3148 are tagged W8/8.1, and there are several - different from those Dell had available a few months ago - so it's not clear which, if any, apply to W10.  Perhaps you do.  In reality, more recent drivers may be in force.

Very fine.  The Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework (DPTF) Driver was the fix, and I stopped there, believing that the remaining items are already on-board and working well.

However, this driver does throw a DPTF error in Event Viewer.  Tried the 00 version and although the package stated "success" the EV reported that install failed.  Testing M3800_System-Utilities_Driver_4Y5PH_WN_7.1.0.2106_A00.EXE now.  No failure message.  Hopefully it's doing the job.

In the earlier incarnation on the laptop I recall that Programs and Features listed two 'thermal' drivers.  Each had a different task.  There were no DPTF errors.  Please share any further insights.

Thanks for the straightforward, knowledgeable response.  Best,  kros

Hi krosnafone,

Request you to please try previous version using this link http://dell.to/2uch6Co, it’s the version A00. Sometimes the downloaded file could have got corrupted and you would have to download the file again or try downloading another browser.

You can check the reason for the error, please go to %SystemRoot%\inf and open the file in notepad. Search for DPFT for the error as to why it failed, you please also refer to this link http://bit.ly/2sYQe8I for help.

Before the installation of the Intel Dynamic Platform Thermal Framework Driver, under device manager you would see PCI Data Acquisition and Signal Processing Controller along with other unknown devices. Once it is installed it would be updated to:

Intel Dynamic Platform Thermal Framework Generic Participant

Intel Dynamic Platform Thermal Framework Manager Participant

Intel Dynamic Platform Thermal Framework Memory Participant

Intel Dynamic Platform Thermal Framework PCH SPTACPI Participant

Intel Dynamic Platform Thermal Framework Processor Participant

Appreciate the insight and pointers. M3800_System-tilities_Driver_4Y5PH_WN_7.1.0.2106_A00.EXE, if it's actually doing the intended task, showed no errors.  Regards.

Following up on another aspect of this thread...

The fresh install included basic BlueTooth drivers, and that feature works reasonably well.

However, install of the above recommended http://dell.to/2uZNhBh Dell 1708 BT package, while it adds a BT control panel, degrades audio.  The effect is loosely similar to a flanging - watery and phase distorted..

Disabling various BT items in Device Manager doesn't help - and usually kills communication.  When 1708 drivers were removed, BT speaker audio returned to normal.

BTHUSB event ID 34

"The local adapter does not support an important Low Energy controller state to support peripheral mode..."

This pops up as a warning in Event Viewer every time the 3148 laptop is booted or awakened from sleep.

This fresh install included basic BlueTooth drivers, and that feature works reasonably well.

However, install of a Dell tech's recommended http://dell.to/2uZNhBh 1708 BT package, while it added a BT control panel, degraded audio.  The effect was loosely similar to a flanging - watery and phase distorted.  The update was uninstalled.

Disabling various BT items in Device Manager doesn't banish the warning - and usually kills communication.  When 1708 drivers were removed, BT speaker audio returned to normal.

As a further test, "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" has been disabled where available under Device Manager performance tabs for Bluetooth entries - to no effect.

BT works. and it's understood that the warning is benign.  And it's seen on other Dell laptops. Can it be eliminated?
