Disabling inbuilt LCD (using external monitor)

Hi,

I have a Inspiron 14R (N4010). My laptop has broken hinges (plastic part on the bottom case). I was hoping to just use the laptop similar to a desktop by connecting to an external monitor by getting rid of the screen. The problem I faced is that if I disconnect the display cable (ribbon type) that connects to the LCD, I get the 8 beeps error. How do I get around this beep problem? In other words, how can I make the VGA connection the primary display?

Thanks in advance.

You shouldn't have to disconnect the lcd cable between the LCD and the motherboard.  Try the solution on the following link to make your external monitor the default.

Don't do that.

You can't so put the ribbon cable back.

Change settings in your version of Windows to use an external monitor.
