Display Adapter Mismatch

Dear forum!

I recently updated my os to windows 8 and did a system refresh (I was forced to because no app worked for me). After installing windows 8 my NVidia Geforce 525M was no longer my primary graphice adapter. I re-installed my NVidia driver and it didn't help. the NVidia control panel and the device manager recognize the 525M card but the directx, desktop graphics and even inside games the system uses intel hd graphics.

I Also tried changing the settings (both in NVidia control panel and intel graphics properties) and updating the windows 8.

My system is Dell Inspiron 5110 15.6", Intel Core i5 2450M, 8GB RAM, 750GB Hard Drive and the 525M Card.

Thanks for any help!

but when I play a game shouldn't it switch to the dedicated graphics card?

The game will always show the Intel GPU as active - there is no physical connection between the nVidia GPU and the display panel.  If you choose the nVidia chip in the Optimus control panel AND the game supports switching graphics, then the nVidia GPU will be used.

You can use a utility like GPU-z to determine which chip is active:

This is the way Optimus is designed to work.  The Intel GPU is always the primary - the nVidia GPU is a coprocessor.

I see, and in the windows experience index (where they rate you pc), why won't it show my graphics card? it rates it with the intel hd 3000 only...

You need to choose to run the WEI with the nVidia chip using the Optimus control panel.

You should see it in the central control panel - if it's not there, the nVidia drivers aren't properly installed.
