The optimal setting is best, but you can tweak the resolution by changing to 125% display. Right click on the Desktop, go to Personalization, Display and try it. You can also choose Screen Resolution, Advanced Settings, List all modes and choose a resolution in between.

Mark, Thanks for the reply. Yes I have tried 125% display settings but this does not work when I remote into office over RDP and VMWare virtual machines.

"You can also choose Screen Resolution, Advanced Settings, List all modes and choose a resolution in between."

When I go the settings that you mentioned above I only see following options

  • 1920X1080
  • 1280X1024
  • 1024X786
  • 800X600

Also under the "Monitor" tab of advanced setting "Hide modes that this monitor cannot display" is unchecked and greyout. Is this normal with the FHD screen?

My E1610 FHD shows quite a few modes when I look at the "List all Modes" display.

I see these resolutions, each with a choice of refresh rates and color depths:

1920x1080, 1680x1050, 1440x900, 1280x1024, 1280x800, 1280x720, 1024x768, 800x600, 720x576, 640x480.

I'm using the Quadro NVS 3100M driver v258.96 provided on Nvidia's Web site, not the older driver that's on Dell's site.

I also reinstalled Win7 Pro x64 from scratch using the DVD provided with the laptop. There were other video issues with the installation as it came from the factory: intermittent pauses and video driver restarts.

p.s.

Don't forget that the display actually runs at 1920x1080 all the time. Lower resolutions have to be scaled up and may look blurry as a result.
