Display is small and not modifiable after reinstalling Windows XP
This systen is a Dell Inspiron 1100 running Windows XP.
This unit was recently given as a hand-me-down to my granddaughter and it has a number of operating problems.
The CD drive would not recognize any CDs. I looked for a replacement driver but could find none. Checking on the internet I find that several others have had the same problem. Since they apparently could not resolve the problem I decided to reinstall and Operating system. On doing so it reinstalled but when it booted again the screen display size was about half the original size. I tried to change it but the system would not allow any change. I suspected that the problem was that the new operating system did not recognize the laptop display and I needed a new display driver. I am open to any suggestions I might get from others in the Community. In the past I have founmd that many of the members have been extremely helpful and my problems have been resolved quite quickly. I am hoping that this problem will be as easy to resolve. Thanks in advance for any thoughts you may have to offer.

I just checked the drivers for the Inspiron 1100. There are quite a few there. My guess is that you are not on the correct web page.

What it sounds like to me is the video driver is not installed. When reinstalling the OS, there is a certain order to install the drivers to make sure that they all work.

Thanks for the quick response. I looked at the Dell Driver Download page but it only showed two downloads for drivers for the Inspiron 1100. One was for IDE and one for removable storage. I printed the list you indicated for the order of installing drivers but the listing of drivers in the Dell Driver Download section only shows two drivers. I don't seem to find a driver for the display. I downloaded the drivers they indicate for my laptop but wonder if there are others that I need to procure elsewhere. Thanks for any help you can offer.

I wanted to give a quick feedback to say THANK YOU for your help. You were exactly right. I went back to search for the drivers and made a different selection and found the bunch of drivers you indicated. I downloaded what I needed and now it is working like a champ. Thanks again for your valuable assistance. Over the years I have submitted a number of questions and have never been unhappy with the results. You folks are the greatest.
