Do I have 3d Acceleration or not?

Dell Inspiron 9100 with ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 installed running Windows XP. Game demos such as Turok, Rogue Squadron, running in compatibility mode say they cannot find a 3d Accelerator Card. Is this because they are just old games and the 9700 is too new for them to find? Or is the 9700 not a 3D Accelerator? If the 9700 is NOT a 3d Accelerator, can one be installed in the Inspiron? Maybe an ATI Rage Pro 128? Or does it have to be one specifically created for Notebooks? Thanks in advance for any assistance.

your card should support hardware acceleration. are you using the correct video drivers?

try this, go to start>run and type in dxdiag then look under video to see if acceleration is enabled.

Thanks, that was VERY helpful. This tool showed that directdraw 3d acceleration was NOT AVAILABLE. I downloaded and re-installed the video drivers from Dell and ran the tool again and lo and behold, my directdraw 3d acceleration is now alive and well! Again, THANK YOU!
