I want to ensure I have the latest, approved (i.e. official) driver for my i9300 with the nVidia GeForce Go 6800.
-- Dell's website shows the latest driver as v6.14.10.6771, A00; 16 March 2005
-- nVidia's website shows v71.89; 14 April 2005.
How do I compare this two very different version numbers? While the dates make it seem obvious, the version numbers make me think I'm missing something.
It's more like the Latest drivers that will work in your Machine, those are the Dell drivers. The drivers off the Nvidia site won't work.
If you want more up to date drivers that will work go to http://www.omegadrivers.net and downloard them there.
Well, the only drivers aproved by dell are dell drivers. I have used Omega drivers with succes. The newest drivers what will work are the omega drivers or drivers from this site http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/.

I don't believe using these will void your warrenty. These aren't wacky drivers, they are just moddified official NVidia drivers, just like dell's are moddified official nvidia drivers. Dell just doesn't do it as often as these people. I can't vouch for http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/ but I use omega drivers and they work fine. If you get the Omega drivers just don't use the overclocking options, because that will probobly void your warrenty.

As far as I've been able to determine, the drivers on the DELL website are 67.71 and were also those shipped with my 9300
They're rubbish - I've been suffering weeks of BSOD crashes with them. In my case, it's a very subtle error that traps when various programs are exiting, typically FireFox and anything Java.
With some research, it seems that 72.xx series are the ones to go for. I wou;dn't recommend 71.xx drivers as from reports these still have the BSOD problem in them.

I went to 72.01 yesterday, and I'm in much better shape so far. Frankly, who cares if it invalidates the warranty - the DELL drivers are faulty, and I've an expensive piece of kit here I need to be able to use. Time will tell, eventually DELL will have to start shipping better drivers for these machines.
