Driver power state failure BSOD on Alienware M17x-R3

Hello, from reading various forums I know a lot of people with my system configuration have had this problem.  Some people have said that it is due to a basic incompatibility between the graphics card (nVidia GeForce GTX 460M) and processor (i7-2720QM) which cannot be fixed by driver updates.  Is that true?

The error is a 0x9f driver power state failure caused by ntoskrnl.exe.  It happens randomly - sometimes every few days, sometimes every month or so.  It is VERY annoying.
