E1505 screen dying, what to replace?
Hello,
I've got an E1505 with XP/Media that's about 4 years old now, so out of warrantee. A few weeks back the screen flashed the bios info, but then went black. It was annoying, but I could still function by hooking up to a monitor. now it is having trouble with the monitor as well...the login screen shows ok, but after entering the password, then the monitor goes into hibernation. If I close the laptop and allow it to hibernate, then open the login screen to unlock comes up on the monitor, but again the monitor goes into hibernate mode when the user screen starts to come up. I can still see the faint images on the laptop screen enough to shutdown. Another user posted about too many things plugged into the USB ports, so I'll try unplugging those to see if I can get the monitor working again, but that doesn't solve my bigger issue of my laptop LCD not working. Any ideas on what to replace? backlight? inverter? I may try to repair myself, but even if I take it somewhere I'd like to know ahead of time what the issue might be.
Thanks for your help,
John

The backlight is more likely than the inverter (and it's difficult to replace), but verify that an external monitor works to rule out a mainboard/video chip/card issue.

After reading some more posts and doing some more searching I'm leaning towards the backlight as well. For the external monitor it was working fine for several weeks, but recently it is only working on initial login or login from hibernation, once it tries to go into the main screen the external monitor goes into stand-bu mode. Which is making me think I might have a new problem developing with the video card itself :-( I can still see the faint images on the laptop screen so I might just go ahead and replace the backlight and see if that solves the problem. Thanks for your reply.

John
