Remove anything plugable and try to boot.  You must have one memory module in.  Try one then the other.

Had the same problem a few weeks ago. Dell ran me thru the check list and detirmined it was the motherboard. Since MB are next impossible to find, and Dell wants C$650 plus C$200 to install. ti say the least I gave it to my brother to worry about and bought a new 5150. after all isn;t that what Dell wants me to do?

Can't help, I'm afraid, but I had the exact same problem develop with my 5000e this week (except sometimes it gets as far as the windows logon screen before freezing). Have you managed to find a resolution?. My best guess so far is that either the motherboard or processor has had it.

David

Dell technical support also confirmed that the Motherboard was shot, and they wanted over $1000 to fix it (in Switzerland) so I decided to buy a new computer (and got an IBM Thinkpad R40 for a little more than Dell wanted to fix the Inspiron!)

Thanks to all of you who replied!

Regards,

Mark
