Erratic touchpad solution for XPS m1530

This is more of a solution post than a cry for help. I had major issues with the touchpad on the 1530. It was so erratic it was almost unusable. I tried all the troubleshooting tips on the Dell website about adjusting sensitivity and cleaning the pad etc. but it still skipped about and got stuck. I downloaded the latest Alps Touchpad driver on the dell support site (which was strangely difficult to find) and installed it. I was warned that it was the same version as the driver I had installed. I went and installed it over the existing one anyway and since then the Touchpad has been fine. I had similar issue with the m1330 which I sent back (for other reasons). Is anyone else getting this problem or have I just been unlucky twice. The driver re-install has solved my issue so I'm happy now but still wonder if it's an issue with the xps 1530/1330s or if it is caused by some software I put on/removed.

I too have this problem, XPS 1530. I will try this and get back to you if it fixes it. R166314.EXE is the driver I downloaded and installed, would this be the one? Thanks for your help.

I thought my pad was off. It seem to have a mine of its own, but what I discovered was operator error.

Mine has a very, very light touch. Now that I'm using the notebook more, I'm getting use to the sensitivity of the pad and have adjusted my usage accordingly.

Initially, I had the same problem with the XPS 1530 touchpad - cursor jumping erratically or not moving at all, etc. Strangely enough, after a few hours it got better, and now is nomal like any other one. Cannot explain, but it may have to do with an initially super-clean surface that gets "oily" after some fingering.

I suggest some patience, using it may likely fix the problem all by itself.
