Hi David

The error code 0142 indicates that the hard drive has gone bad and you need to replace it. However, I would suggest you to , re-seat the hard drive before replacing it. I would also like to inform you that hard drive is not a customer replaceable unit.

You can download system manual from the below mentioned link:

http://dell.to/T2Rlrm

Meanwhile, if the system is in warranty, please provide me the system Service Tag in a private message, so that I can assist you further.

Please reply if you have any further questions

Thanks & Regards

Thanks Prateek,

Also I should mention one thing...My dell does start, boots normal, goes to windows, I put in my password, Windows loads fine,,I can even access programs and surf the net...BUT...after about 5-6 minutes, the laptop freezes and then goes to a funny error screen

Does this help also in finding a remedy?

Thanks

Thanks Prateek

I went to www.dell.com/.../ArticleView .....BUT....this tells me to Back up and create CD BEFORE my hard drive crashes!!.... I can not preform this function AFTER the hard drive crashes

Any suggestions? Or can Dell send me a Windows 7 installation CD for my N7110??

Thanks

David

G'day Prateek,

I am having similar issue with my vostro 3550 which is nearly 2 years old. Actually, just today, the tech guy changed the hard-disk. But after the fresh installation of windows 7, I was running windows updates and suddenly blue screen appears and restart itself. It looks like the error still persist, even after replacement. At the moment I am running diagnostics....

So do you have any clue, whats going on?

Hi Saharsh,

Thanx for getting back to me.

Error Code 2000-01 42

Validation 26971

MSg: HArd Drive 0 - S/N S2TDJB0C1 46546, self test unsuccessful. Status= 7.

This came up like 2 days ago. Then I contacted Dell and they changed the hard-drive. But even after that , the blue screen error presist.

At the moment, I am running diagnostic . So if somthing  comes up, will let you know.

Hi arj007,

Please share the results of the diagnostics. Also, it is possible that you might encountered the Blue Screen of Death due to any Windows update or Drivers failure as well. Please share the exact error message which appeared along with the Blue Screen.

Please reply with the information, I'll be happy to assist you.
