External Display Detection on a C400

Hello there,

I have a C400 which refuses to initlaise the external LCD conected to the the docking station.  This only happens after the laptop has been used on its own screen, shutdown and then plugged into the docking station.  Using FN/F8 intialises the external screen but that isnt really an option as the screen is on the stand, ensuring the lid of the machine cannot be opened once docked.

I have the latest Dell 830M graphics card driver and the latest C400 bios.

This is proving to be a right PITA and and any help would be greatly appreciated.
