External Monitor Switching Off
I have a Dell Studio XPS laptop 1647 (Core i5@2.27GHZ, 4 GB RAM, Windows 7 - 64 bit and ATI 4670 1 GB graphics card) connected to an IOGear KVM (Model GCS632U, USB) and an HP 2709m monitor (27", 1920x1080p). The laptop is connected to the KVM via VGA cables. The second laptop is a Lenovo Thinkpad T61 (Core 2 Due Mobile T7300@2.0Ghz, 2 GB RAM, XP Pro - SP3 and Mobile Intel 965 Chipset graphics).
The issue that I am having is that when I am on the Dell machine, the monitor will flash off for about 15 seconds and the come back on. The flashing is accompanied by the hardware disconnect and reconnect sound (Windows Hardware Removal.wav and Windows Hardware Insert.wav). The screen also flashes a color block from the monitor which I believe says that the monitor has lost and regained the video signal (it flashes too fast to read). The Lenovo machine does not have this problem. The monitor never flashes when I an connected to that side of the KVM.
I have switched sides of the KVM but it makes no difference, I have swapped the video cable to no avail and HP has replaced the monitor (due to a bad pixel). Both mitors sufferend the same problem.
I would really appreciate some suggestions as the monitor has flashed 6 times since starting this post.
Thanks,
Mike

I have this EXACT same issue. I've had it since the first day I got my laptop. At that time, I called Dell and got a great tech who connected remotely and installed a different ATI driver. I say "different" because it was the desktop 4670 driver and not the Mobility one. But recently I messed up and installed the latest drivers from ATI and messed them up. Since that time, I have not been able to figure out how to fix this and the solution from Dell was to install a new motherboard which didn't help in the least. Please post an answer if you find one!!

Thanks to all that got back to me. I was never able to get it to work. I went out and bought a Belkin Flip and connected the Dell as the first machine and the Thinkpad as the second and it works fine. I took the Iogear one to the office and hooked it up to the same Thinkpad and a Dell latitude E4300 (1200X800 max resolution) and it works fines. It drives a 1440x900 monitor without a flicker. Perhaps it could not handle the 1920x1080 resolution.
One work of advise on the Belkin. It comes with a two molded cables. The primary one is only about 2 feet long. The second one is a normal 6 foot cable. I was able to extend, the monitor, USB and audio cable (it comes with a 1 foot audio extension cable) without a problem. Just be aware that you may need additional cables. Additionally, I was never able to drive the monitor above 1600x1200 with the Dell on the second cable. I called Belkin and they told me that they did not support Windows 7 and could not help me. They also told me that the KVM did not support that high of resolution even though the box says that it supports 2048x1536. When I pointed that out to the technician that is when he told me that they did not support Windows 7. It would clearly obvious that he did not have a clue about what he was supporting. When I hooked up the Dell to the primary cable (the short one) it worked fine and supported the higher resolution.
