Fn-Volume Buttons do not work, but all other Function buttons do.

the Mute and Volume buttons do not work. Either via Fn/button, or the onboard buttons by the pwoer. They pull up the little picture and bar, but do NOT change the setting.

However, the function buttons for the monitor brigthness, CD tray, CDT/LCD, etc, work fine.

The buttons themselves - end, Page Up, Page Dn - are functioning, it's not the keyboard.

And, yes, I have Quickset instealled. When I run Quickset, it only asks me about Power Management.

Only reason I stated Quickset was that I saw several previous users having stated that their volume controls did not work, and they were told by some support folks on this forum to install Quickset.

My apologies, I should state this is a Latitude D610. Windows XP Pro. Need anything else?

Outstanding, however Quickset isn't required to make the Volume functions work.  It would certainly help to know a few essential details like "specific system model," and which operating system you're referring to.

Yep.  Need to know if the audio devices ("Device Manager - Sound, video and game controllers") show up properly, as well as whether you've run the Dell Diagnostics to rule out a hardware malfunction.  It would also help to know if your BIOS is current, and if you've recently reinstalled Windows.

Audio devices work fine, they show up properly, the stupid hotkeys just don't work.
Since you'll ask, it's Sigma Tel C-Major hardware. As came with the notebook.

Dell Diagnostics rules out a hardware malfunction.

BIOS is current.

Windows has not been recently reinstalled.

Are you closer to knowing a solution now?

I should probably just go to real support for this, right?

Duffy try this:

Hey,

I experienced the exact same issue and after a week of uninstalling and reinstalling codecs and drivers I found out that 2 other co-workers had the same issue too.

My boss found it after a month of hunting and it is pretty straight forward.  There are some registry entries that have to get changed.  So far it has worked for all of our D600's.

There are two registry files i'm linking here to my own website.

The first one to run is fixed.drivers32.reg  and then run fixed.drivers.desc.reg   ... this should work for ya's

Oh and back up your current registry prior to running these just in case... i didn't create them or support them but am i ever happy to have the sound back...

Fix brought to you by John Harrison....

Randolfx - thanks for John Harrison's fix. It works. I don't understand why, but I now have a volume control back again on my D610!
