Fuzzy Display & Battery Problems

Hello-

Recently (within the last 2 weeks) my Inspiron 8000 began having display problems.  The LCD screen will be working fine and will all of a sudden become fuzzy with dark lines through it sometimes coovering the whole screen, sometimes just part of the screen.  Sometimes it happens instantly, sometimes it's a slow gradual process that gets fuzzier as the time goes on.

Most of the time, I can correct the problem by shifting the angle of my screen, or by playing around with the computer itself (putting pressure on some parts, placing something underneath, twisting it slightly, etc.)  Because of this I suspect some sore of loose connection, and would like help with how to fix this problem.

Also around the same time, I noticed a red blinking light next to the battery icon on the computer (not the screen).  My battery will all of a sudden only charge to 97%, and the red light continues to blink.  What might be causing this and how may I resolve it?

Thanks.

Two separate issues. The second is easier - the battery needs to be replaced.

Attach an external monitor to the system. Does the same problem appear? If so, you may have a faulty video adapter.

If it doesn't, reseat the flex cable that runs to the LCD panel. If that doesn't clear it up, either the cable needs to be replaced or the panel needs an internal electronic repair.

I don't have an external monitor to try, so that's out of the question.  I also figured out that pressing Fn+F8 clears up the problem temporarily.  How would I go about resetting the flex cable?  That is what I feel probably needs to be done.
